Biodynamic and Organic advising with horticulturist Clay Wesson -  Clay brings over a decade of Horticulture experience to the Willamette Valley where he has lived since 2008.  Making McMinnville Oregon his home he has worked in the ornamental industry and eventually moved on to manage the Miller Woods native plant nursery and annual plant sale for the Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District.  Recently he was the Director of Biodynamics at Brooks Winery where he developed gardens at the new winery along with encouraging environmentally friendly biodynamic practices for the Demeter certified vineyard and winery.  

 

He is a master gardener through OSU extension and in 2017 he became trained as a Demeter Biodynamic Inspector as well as an IOIA trained Organic Crop inspector.  Also in 2017 he partnered up with Simon Burr with Mountain Top Vineyard Service serving the vineyards in the Willamette Valley develop more sustainable operating procedures. 

 

Clay took a Hiatus from consulting from 2018-2025 while working full time in the vineyards, refining his skills and testing his theories at scale for Organic and Biodynamic Grape production. From 2018-2023 he spent five vintages with Willamette Valley Vineyards as their Viticulturist and Grower relations, overseeing 500 acres of vineyards and passionately converting Domaine Willamette to Biodynamics which achieved Demeter Certification in 2023.  

Recently from 2023-2026, for 3 vintages was the Head of Viticulture for Montinore Estate with Ackley Brands, overseeing 200+ acres of triple certified (Demeter-Biodynamic, CCOF-Organic, LIVE-Sustainable) vineyards while striving for the goal of self sufficiency by building and maintaining a team of 100% in house labor.  

 

In 2022 and 2025 Clay was an adjunct professor the spring term at Chemeketa Community College instructing students taking a 10 week course in Organic and Biodynamic Viticulture.
